About Lesley and Michael Thomas
. Growing up in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire of Irish/ English background Lesley was surrounded by horse farms. Horses were always in her blood. Lesley rode from the age of four in pony clubs, and for her friends. Every weekend she was at the local show or at the farm riding/ working. Lesley worked at David Barkers in Northallerton during the summer holidays and weekends. Always wanting to compete in the higher levels but school, and the expense of the sport took over.
It was in 1981 that Lesley moved to Canada and met her husband Michael. They fell in love immediately. Both with similar interests and love for animals, Lesley introduced Michael to horses and his love for them grew rapidly. Michael loved to surprise Lesley with gifts of horse back riding and lessons and eventually they would lesson together. Their love for the sport grew even more as they bought their first horse together in 1998 named Alexis Royale. They competed her on the line and won many Champion and Reserve Champions and qualified her for the Royal Agricultural Fair where she finished up third overall for Canadian Sport Horse..... not to bad for their first time! At the time Lesley and Michael lived in Oakville, Ontario and realized that the horses weren't just a hobby but a passion.
In 2005 they found a piece of property where they saw potential for their custom dream house and barn. By 2007 the new barn was constructed and Hillcrest Farms was born.
Alyssa was born and raised in Oakville, Ontario. From an early age she was completely in love with horses. When Alyssa was three years old when she made her first contact with horses and was bold enough to try out riding. At age seven Alyssa went to her first summer camp called Kemur in Cambridge, Ontario. Shortly after her experience at camp Alyssa began taking lesson regularly and was hooked. In 1999 Alyssa got her first pony a 14.2 hh Welsh pony named "Silver" who she loved with all her heart. Alyssa competed in hunter, jumpers and dressage with Silver and was always in the ribbons. As time grew on so did Alyssa and she out-grew he first mount and exceled onto her parents horse Alexis Royale who she competed in hunter and jumper and trained her in dressage. After only half a season of competing on Alexis Royale, Alyssa and the mare resulted circuit champions. Alyssa's parents knew that she was exceling quickly. All she wanted to do was push herself to the greatest potential possible, and she knew she had the full support of her parents behind her. At this point a beautiful surprise happened to Alyssa, she was given her first top mount "Dancing Queen". The two were a perfect match. Always Champion, Reserve Champion or in the ribbons. The two dominated the show ring for 3 years. This gave Alyssa the confidence she was looking for to move to the next step.
In 2005 Alyssa moved to Burlington, Ontario and graduated in 2006 at Lester B. Pearson. In 2007 Dancing Queen was retired and Alyssa knew that she had to search for a new mount. Alyssa had the opportunity of starting many young horses but knew her career didn't end there she wanted to be in the "BIG" ring. In 2008 Alyssa and her parents imported three new mounts, Lancelot age 10, Casa Blanca age 6 and Chiquita age 4. With high hopes Alyssa put her mind to it leading her to many highs with her new mounts and training with top professionals Alyssa was successful with all three mounts competing anywhere from 1.20m - 1.40m. By 2011 Alyssa completed her University degree in Equine Science at the University of Guelph. Alyssa still strives for bigger better accomplishments and wont give up until she has reached them.
